This Extreme Duty 68RFE transmission comes with our Full Billet torque converter, that has three Red clutch plates with over three times the holding ability of the stock converter. Full Billet means both the converter housing, low stall billet stator and the clutch apply piston are all billet. This converter is built in-house at PATC. The failure prone low / reverse sprag is replaced with a very large low / reverse roller clutch that will not flip like the sprag does under extreme use. This sprag is the number one cause of failure in 68RFE transmissions. This transmission comes with an Alto Red Eagle Power Pack that adds extra clutches for more holding power. The Sonnax Line Pressure Booster is added to farther increase the holding ability by raising the fluid pressure. As a final touch a Transgo Shift Kit is installed. You can buy this Extreme Duty 68RFE transmission and torque converter for $5369.00 plus a core charge on the transmission and converter. Add a billet flexplate, deep cast aluminum pan and auxiliary transmission cooled if desired. The deep pan and cooler installed in combination will lower the transmission temperature thirty degrees.

45RFE - 545RFE - 68RFE Line Pressure Booster

#45LPB / #68LPB. This family of transmissions uses a full range line pressure sensor mounted on the outside of the transmission for "closed loop" line pressure control. Due to this system, traditional methods of raising line pressure by changing the PR spring or valves have no effect. This Line Pressure Booster alters the pressure signal sent to the computer causing the computer to raise line pressure. The 68RFE has a 10-15 PSI increase and the 45RFE and 545RFE has a 15-30 PSI increase. Higher line pressure increases clutch holding power and torque capacity. Changes in shift feel will be noticed mostly under aggressive driving or loaded conditions. This part is ideal for heavy duty and modified vehicles and even stock transmissions when a little extra pressure is desired. No other modifications are required. The Line Pressure Booster installs between the pressure sensor and vehicle harness using OEM style sealed connectors. Simply unplug the vehicle harness and reconnect with one of these parts. Due to the many aftermarket torque converters and aftermarket flexplates on the market, sometimes the correct clearance between the torque converter and flexplate can't be obtained. This spacer is just less than 1/8 inch thick and comes with two new extended dowel pins. This part is the answer to a long standing problem. Cost $69.00

68RFE Low / Reverse Roller Clutch

This is the main weak point in the 68RFE transmission. If you have a performance engine and tow heavy loads this is the part you need. The 68RFE low and reverse clutch is only on when the output shaft speed is below 150 RPM. So when your doing hard accelerations or burnouts and the driveshaft speed reaches 150 the clutch releases and drops back on the low and reverse sprag. The OEM type sprag will not tolerate this too many times before it will flip the drive dogs. Result is no 1st gear and 2nd gear starts. Cost $425.00

Transmission Cooling: You must have a transmission cooler in your radiator regardless of what someone has told you for the transmission to last. Auxiliary coolers are just that, in addition to. Water cools 32 times better (faster) than air always, period. The transmission fluid comes directly from the torque converter at a much higher temperature than the water in your radiator and is cooled to the water temperature fast. Then it goes to the auxiliary cooler to be cooled far below the water temperature. If you don't need a cooler in your radiator why does GM spend all that money doing so? If you wanted to cool a red hot piece of steel fast would you stick it in water or air, see the point. For the best cooling you need both water and air cooling for the transmission to be cooler than the motor.

To determine your tires true diameter in relation to determining what speedometer gears you need, measure from the ground up to the center of the axle then multiply by two. The actual run out of the tire can be as much as 2 to 3 inches less than what the circumference of the tire measures. In effect your tire has two diameters.
To determine your rear end ratio, raise both tires off of the ground, turn both tires at the same time one complete turn, at the same time count the turns of the drive shaft, this is your ratio.

The short shaft gears are for an electronic speedometer and the long shaft gears are for a cable driven speedometer. This is true most of the time, not always.

Dodge / Jeep 2WD / 4WD Speedometer Gears

#12DG. These gears are used with most Jeep and Dodge truck electronic speed sensors for the speedometer. You can increase or decrease the number of teeth depending on tire size to make your speedometer more accurate. The drive gear has 13 teeth and is machined into the output shaft. Dodge / Jeep Speedometer Gears

Many tire makers build their tires differently, so a 35-inch tire from one company to another may vary as much as a full inch.

The short shaft gears are for an electronic speedometer and the long shaft gears are for a cable driven speedometer. This is true most of the time, not always.
